The green mango of Thailand


The mango (pronounce Mamuang in thai), is one of the first tropical fruits in Thailand. Green or yellow, you have to eat it mature. Mango is picked green after a growing of one month. It’s eating in salad and in all ways seasoned. The most famous thai dessert is named “khao niao mamuand” (mango and sticky rice).

Green mangos have a taste and a texture approximate to green apples, but take care of its acidity in case of overconsumption. Green mangos are generally eaten fresh, sometimes with sticky rice, which is a meal enjoyed in Thailand. This fruits find easily their place in all kinds of salad, or other traditional recipes of this country.

 

 

If the mango is too existing in Thailand, first of all, this is because its originating of this part of Asia where its have been cultivated for long times. Hindu Vedas talk about mango already 4000 years before JC, as being “food of Gods”. Buddha received a gift of courtesan Ambapali an orchard of mango trees to meditate and maybe to serve also as a source of income thus enabling it to concentrate on his way. Buddhism is very present in Thailand, the consumption of this fruit has also a significant religious connotations, above its taste very much appreciated.
